Jakarta – The Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) hopes that Croatia can function as a gateway for Indonesia to export palm oil products to Central and East Europe.

“We know that we still have problem with our palm oil exports to European Union (EU). So, we hope Croatia, through its modern seaports, can become our gateway in exporting palm oil to Europe,” DPR Deputy Speaker in charge of politic and security coordination Lodewijk F. Paulus Lodewijk said after meeting with visiting delegation of Croatia’s parliament in the Senayan parliament complex, Jakarta, on Monday, 28 August 2023.
Lodewijk said that despite a small country in Europe, Croatia has three modern seaports. “This is a big opportunity for us. We have to consider how to improve our bilateral relations with Croatia. It should be mutually beneficial for us. We’ll see what products can be exported through their seaports, and what products they will export here to our country,” he said.
According to him, during their meeting they also discussed other issues, which include bilateral cooperation on defence and security, how to end the war between Russia and Ukraine, and how to mitigate the war impacts in many sectors, not only in terms of politics but also economy.
“We’re also ready to help find a peaceful solution to end the Russia – Ukraine war. We’ve seen the impacts of the war, including the increase of agricultural products. We import wheat in quite large volumes from Russia and Ukraine. The war has impacted the global economy,” he said. (*)
