Jakarta – The government is committed to reducing the greenhouse gas (GHG) emission in line with the global agreement set in the enhanced nationally determined contribution (E-NDC) to reduce the emission up to 32% or 358 million tons of CO2e on its own and 41% or 446 million tons of CO2e with the help of internasional community in 2030.

To realize the target, the government has implemented various green programs, which include the use of biodiesel to replace fossil fuels which highly contribute to emissions.
Yudo Dwinanda Priaadi, Director General of New and Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation at the ministry of energy and mineral resources (MEMR) said that the biodiesel, which is a mixture of diesel fuel and palm oil, has played an important role in the national program of decarbonizing towards zero emissions in 2060.
“As a renewable energy source, biodiesel is cleaner and more friendly to the environment if compared to the conventional fossil fuels. It can help us in reducing the greenhouse gas emission and air pollution significantly,” he said when addressing the Indonesia Sustainable Energy Week 2023 in Jakarta.
He said that Indonesia has been implementing the biodiesel mandatory program for more than 17 years. “It has made Indonesia as the pioneer in the use of biodiesel. Since February 2023 the government has upgraded the biodiesel program from the previous B30 program to B35 program, which allows the mixture of 65% diesel fuel and 35% fatty acid methyl esters (FAME) processed from palm oil. “The government will gradually upgrade the biodiesel program to B40 and higher until then reaching the maximum at B100,” he said.
According to Yudo, during 2022, the biodiesel 30 percent (B30) program managed to cut greenhouse gas emission up to 27.8 million tons of CO2e with a total allocation of biodiesel quota at 11 million kiloliters worth more than US$10 billion.
“For this year (2023), quota of biodiesel is set at 13.15 million kiloliters, which are projected to reach a total value of more than US$11.2 billion,” said Yudo. (*)
