JAKARTA – State-owned electricity company PT PLN, through its subholding company PLN Indonesia Power, signed a joint development study agreement (JDSA) with China Energy Engineering Group Co., Ltd (CEEC) in Jakarta on Thursday (21/03/2024). Based on the agreement, the two companies will develop a big scale project of green energy in Sulawesi.

PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo said that as a key player in the Indonesia’s energy transition agenda, PLN will strengthen synergies with national and global partners to accelerate massive use of renewable energy sources. It is also in line with the government’s steps to meet the target of Net Zero Emissions (NZE) in 2060 or even faster.
”The signing of the agreement stands as an important milestone, as in the near future the government and PLN will release a new national electricity business plan (RUKN). It will rule the development of big scale projects of green power plants based on renewable energy sources and green transmission lines that will link islands of Indonesia,” Darmawan said during High-Level Business Meeting PLN-CEEC in Jakarta.
Darmawan further said that the new RUKN will also rule about the ecosystem of renewable energy in Indonesia that will be supported by hydropower plants and geothermal power plants at total generation capacity of 32 Gigawatt (GW), and solar power plants and wind power plants at generation capacity of 28 GW.
The green transmission line is expected to play a crucial role in distributing green power between the country’s islands. ”There is mismatch between the locations of hydropower plants and geothermal power plants with the areas of peak loads. So, we need to link islands of Sumatera to Java, Kalimantan to Java, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) to Java, and Kalimantan to Sulawesi,” said Darmawan.
CEEC Group Chairman Song Hailiang said that they are ready to support the Indonesian government in realizing the target of NZE in 2060 or faster. CEEC is optimistic about the green business as it has a long history of cooperation with PLN in developing renewable energy.
”Indonesia is an important partner of China in developing green energy and in supporting efforts to reach the target of NZE in 2060 in Indonesia,” said Song. (*)
