JAKARTA – The Indonesian Palm Oil Association (GAPKI) Chairman Eddy Martono has ensured that all member companies of GAPKI have already had their own taxpayer identification numbers (NPWP) and pay their due taxes.

“If they don’t have it (NPWP), they certainly could not get their business licenses, such as land cultivation rights (HGU), certification of ISPO (Indonesian Sustainability Palm Oil), and others. They could not get licenses if they don’t have NPWP,” Eddy Martono said on Thursday (11/7/2024).
Eddy was commenting on the statement made by Maritime and Investment Coordinating Minister Luhut B. Pandjaitan who said that many oil palm plantation companies operating in Indonesia do not have their taxpayer identification numbers (NPWP).
Based on data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS), in 2019 there were a total of 2056 oil palm plantation companies registered operating in Indonesia. Currently, their number has reached more than 3,000 companies. Of the total, 727 companies are members of GAPKI.
Luhut said in his Instagram, @luhut.pandjaitan, that such condition made the government unable to collect taxes from the companies. It is seen as one of the factors that caused low realization of state income from corporate tax. “If they don’t have NPWP, they are untaxable,” he said on Wednesday. (*)
