BMKG: Most of RI Areas Affected By Extreme Dry Season

JAKARTA – The  Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Board (BMKG) has called on the public to watch out potential extreme dry season in a number of regions across Indonesia during the dry season 2024.

BMKG reported recently that 64 percent of Indonesian season zones had seen dry season, while the other 36 percent are still seeing rainy season.

Regions already experienced dry season include a small part of Aceh, a small part of North Sumatra (Sumut), a small part of West Sumatra (Sumbar), a part of Riau, a small part of Kepulauan Riau, most parts of Jambi, a part of Bengkulu, most parts of South Sumatra (Sumsel), most parts of Bangka Belitung, most parts of Lampung, most parts of Java, a part of Central Kalimantan (Kalteng), a small part of North Kalimantan (Kaltara), a part of East Kalimantan (Kaltim).

The dry season is also seen in most parts of South Kalimantan (Kalsel), most parts of Bali, most parts of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), most parts of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), a part of North Sulawesi (Sulut), most parts of  Gorontalo, small parts of Central Sulawesi (Sulteng), a part of West Sulawesi (Sulbar), most parts of South Sulawesi (Sulsel), small parts of North Maluku (Malut), a part of Maluku, small parts of Papua Barat, and small parts of Papua.

Based on updating on 10 September 2024, currently there are 38 regions in 7.0 provinces that saw no rains for more than two months.

Regions lacking rains with the category of long extreme until early September 2024 are as follows:

  1. NTT: Kupang mayoralty (144 days), Sumba Timur (141 days), Sabu Raijua (128 days), Kupang (116 days), Lembata (97 days), Timor Tengah Selatan (97 days), Sikka (72 days), Rote Ndao (70 days), Sumba Barat Daya (69 days), Ende (69 days);
  2. East Java: Jember (139 days), Probolinggo mayoralty (139 days), Pasuruan (138 days), Situbondo (138 days), Banyuwangi (137 days), Blitar(137 days), Mojokerto (137 days), Tulungagung (137 days), Bangkalan (135 days), Malang (108 days);
  3. Nusa Tenggara Barat: Bima (137 days), Lombok Timur (94 days).
  4. Sulawesi Selatan: Barru (68 days), Pangkep (68 days), Takalar (68 days), Makassar (68 days);
  5. DIY: Bantul (68 days), Gunung Kidul (67 days);
  6. West Java: Ciamis (66 days), Cirebon (65 days), Indramayu (65 days), Karawang (65 days), Majalengka (65 days), Purwakarta (65 days), Subang (65 days), Sumedang (65 days), Bekasi (65 days);
  7. Banten: Pandeglang (66 days). (*)
