CPO Production Surges, But Exports Take a Hit!

EXPORTS DROP, STOCK RISES

CPO production in April 2025 increased due to seasonal factor by 2% to 4,479 thousand tons from 4,391 thousand tons in previous month, while production of PKO rose to 425 thousand tons from 417 thousand tons.

Year on year (YoY) as of April, the production of CPO+PKO in 2025 reached 18,039 thousand tons or around 0.85% higher than the production in 2024 at  17,887 thousand tons.

Meanwhile, total local consumption saw a decrease from 2,168 thousand tons in March to

2,100 thousand tons in April. The consumption for foods in April decreased to 871 thousand tons or lower by -2.02% from that of the previous month at 889 thousand ton. The consumption for oleochemical increased to 183 thousand tons or higher by 0.32% from that of the previous month at 182 thousand tons. The consumption for biodiesel also decreased to 1,046 thousand tons or a decline of -4.58% from that of the previous month at 1,097 thousand tons.

Total exports of palm oil products in April dropped to 1,779 thousand tons or a decline of -39.2% from the exports in the previous month at 2,876 thousand tons. The largest export decrease was seen in processed palm oil products, which decreased to 1,241 thousand tons from 2,128 thousand tons in March (-41,7%). The export of  oleochemical also decreased in April to 368 thousand tons from 407 thousand tons in  March (-9,6%). Based on export destinations, big decrease of exports in April compared to March was seen to EU (-156 thousand tons), to India (-155 thousand tons), USA (-113 thousand tons), Pakistan (-109 thousand tons), and Bangladesh (-86 thousand tons). Year on year (YoY) as of April, exports decreased from 9,715 thousand tons in 2024 to 9,416 thousand tons in 2025 (-3,08%). The largest decrease was seen to India (-1,055 thousand tons/-68%), EU (- 818 thousand tons/-62%), China (-746 thousand tons/-62%), and Pakistan (-385 thousand tons/-42%).

The export value of palm oil products decreased from US$3.283 billion in March to US$2.069 billion or a decrease of 37.0%. But despite the fact, the export value during January-April rose from US$8.307 billion in 2024 to US$ 10.818 billion in 2025 or an increase of 30.2%. It was because the average price of CPO increased during January-April 2025 to US$ 1,183/ton Cif Rotterdam, which was higher than the average price during January-April 2024 at US$ 1,001/ton Cif Rotterdam.

With the initial stock in April at 2,017 thousand tons, production of CPO+PKO rose to 4,904 thousand tons, domestic consumption decreased to 2,100 thousand tons and exports dropped to 1,779 thousand tons, then the final stock by the end of April increased to 3,046 thousand tons. (*)
