PRODUCTION DECREASES, EXPORT INCREASES
CPO production in May 2025 dropped 7.01% to 4,165 thousand tons from 4,479 thousand tons in the previous month. PKO production also dropped from 425 thousand tons in April to 396 thousand tons in May. Year on year (YoY) as of May, the production of CPO+PKO in 2025 reached 22,600 thousand tons or around 2.08% higher than the production in 2024 at 22,140 thousand tons.
Domestic consumption saw a decrease from 2,100 thousand tons in April to 2,029 thousand tons in May. The consumption for foods in May dropped to 803 thousand tons or a decrease of 7.81% from that of the previous month at 871 thousand tons, for oleochemical rose to 187 thousand tons or an increase of 2.19% from that of the previous month at 183 thousand tons, while for biodiesel dropped to 1,039 thousand tons or a decrease of 0.67% from that of the previous month at 1,046 thousand tons.
Total exports of palm oil products in May rose to 2,664 thousand tons or an increase of 49.75% from that of the previous month at 1,779 thousand tons. The largest export increase was seen in the processed palm oil from 1,241 thousand tons in April to 1,967 thousand tons in May (58.50%), followed by CPO to 164 thousand tons from 54 thousand tons in May (23.70%). The export of oleochemical also increased to 437 thousand tons from 368 thousand tons in May (18.75%).
Based on country of destination , the increase of export in May was seen, among others, to India (230 thousand tons), China (88 thousand tons), USA (32 thousand tons), Pakistan (50 thousand tons), Bangladesh (54 thousand tons), Africa (197 thousand tons) and EU (117 thousand tons). Destination country that saw export drop in May compared to that in April was to Russia (-27 thousand tons).
The export value of palm oil products in May increased from US$2.069 billion in April to US$2.822 billion in May or an increase of 36.40%. The export value increased from US$10.035 billion during January-May 2024 to US$13.641 billion during the same period in 2025 or an increase of around 35.93%. The increase of export value was caused by, among others, the average price of palm oil products during January-May 2025 reached US$1,186/ton Cif Rotterdam, which was higher than the average price during January-May 2024 at US$ 997/ton Cif Rotterdam.
With the initial stock in May at 3,046 thousand tons, production of CPO+PKO rose to 4,561 thousand tons, local consumption dropped to 2,029 thousand tons and export rose to 2,664 thousand tons, final stock by the end of May dropped to 2,916 thousand tons.
