Palm oil has been very often misunderstood. It is apparently due to a number of myths revolving around the health benefits of the tropical oil. One of the myths has it that vitamin E content in palm oil is lower than in other vegetable oils. But the scientific facts show otherwise.

“Palm oil is seen having lower content of vitamin E compared to other vegetable oils, such as soybean and corn oil. But in fact, the palm oil has the highest content of vitamin E compared to all kinds of vegetable oils. Vitamin E content in palm oil reaches 1,172 ppm (part per million), exceeding soybean (958 ppm), corn oil (782 ppm), and much higher than olive oil (91 ppm) or coconut oil (36 ppm).”
Vitamin E in Palm Oil: Strong combination of Tocopherol and Tocotrienol
Vitamin E in palm oil consists of two components:
- 20% Tocopherol
- 80% Tocotrienol
What makes palm oil different from other vegetable oils is its very high content of tocotrienol. Due to its very content of tocotrienol, the palm oil is named “the richest natural source of tocotrienols” in the world.
Tocotrienol is known to have activity of antioxidant, which is way stronger than tocopherol, allowing it to provide extensive health benefits.
Benefits of Vitamin E from Palm Oil
Due to its high content of Vitamin E, palm oil has a strong effect of antioxidant and gives various health benefits, which include:
- Fighting against free radicals
- Preventing cancer
- Increasing human immune system
- Maintaining skin health
- Raising fertility of reproduction organ
- Maintaining eye health
- Maintaining health of heart
- Preventing degenerative diseases and early aging (such as dementia and Alzheimer)
Besides being free from cholesterol, palm oil is also the source of vitamin E and a very strong antioxidant. Its content of tocotrienol makes it superior to other vegetable oils in terms of protecting body cells and preventing chronic diseases.
So, it is now time to correct the wrong information, as the palm oil is rich in nutrients and vitamins, and not the cause of diseases as had been suspected by many. (*)
