Palm Production, Consumption And  Exports Drop, Stock Rises

JAKARTA — CPO production in March 2026 reached 4,403 thousand tons, a decrease of -12.22% from that of the previous month at 5,015 thousand tons. PKO production in March also dropped to 418 thousand tons from 485 thousand tons in February. As a result total production of CPO+PKO in 2026 amounted to 4,821 thousand tons, a decrease of -12.35% from that of the previous month at 5,500 thousand tons. Year on year (YoY) as of March, production of CPO+PKO in 2026 increased to 15,558 thousand tons or an increase of 18.44% from the production in 2025 at 13,135 thousand tons.

Total domestic consumption decreased -8.25% from 2,305 thousand tons in February to 2,115 thousand tons in March 2026. The largest decrease was seen in the food consumption from 986 thousand tons in March to 897 thousand tons in February or a decrease of 9.03%. The consumption for biodiesel dropped -7.71% to 1,056 thousand tons in March from 1,144 thousand tons at the previous month, and consumption for oleo-chemical dropped -7.43% to 162 thousand tons from 175 thousand tons at the previous month.

Year on year (YoY) as of March, the consumption in 2026 rose to 6,524 thousand tons or an increase of 7.47% from the consumption in 2025 at 6,071 thousand tons. Total palm oil exports in March 2026 declined to 2,168 thousand tons or a decrease of -34.25% from the exports in February at 3,297 thousand tons. The export decline was seen in CPO, from 395 thousand tons to 96 thousand tons at the previous month (-75.61%), in PKO from 171 thousand tons to 94 thousand tons (-44.67%), and in processed palm oil from 2,267 thousand tons to 1,506 thousand tons (-33.57%).

The increase of exports was seen in oleochemical, from 462 thousand tons to 468 thousand tons (+1.42%). Year on year (YoY) as of March, exports in 2026 rose to 8,546 thousand tons or 11.91% higher than the exports in 2025 at 7,637 thousand tons.

Based on destination countries, the decrease of exports in March as compared to the previous month was seen to China (-314 thousand tons), India (-291 thousand tons), Pakistan (-113 thousand tons), Bangladesh (-90 thousand tons), Africa (-81 thousand tons), Middle East (-77 thousand tons), Malaysia (-71 thousand tons), USA (-41 thousand tons) and EU-27 (-25 thousand tons).

The increase of exports was seen to Russia (24 thousand tons). Year on year (YoY) as of March, the decrease of exports in 2026 from the exports in 2025 was seen to Pakistan (-118 thousand tons), USA (-93 thousand tons), Russia (-28 thousand tons), and EU-27 (-13 thousand tons), while the increase of exports was seen to China (+673 thousand tons), India (+218 thousand tons), Middle East (+120 thousand tons), Africa (+106 thousand tons), Malaysia (+38 thousand tons) and Bangladesh (+7 thousand tons).

The export value of palm oil products in March decreased from US$ 3.69 billion in February to US$ 2.61 billion in March or a decrease of -29.27%. Year on year (YoY) as of March, the export value in 2026 rose to US$ 9.66 billion or 10.40% higher than that in 2025 at US$ 8.75 billion. The increase of export value year on year (YoY) was resulted from the rise of export volume and average price during January-March 2026 at US$ 1,356/ton Cif Rotterdam, which was higher from the average price during January-March 2025 at US$ 1,230/ton Cif Rotterdam.

With initial stock in March 2026 at 2,026 thousand tons, production at 4,821 thousand tons, consumption at 2,115 thousand tons and exports at  2,168 thousand tons, then stock by the end of March 2026 amounted to 2,568 thousand tons as compared to the stock by the end of February 2026 at  2,026 thousand tons.
