Production, Consumption and Exports Rise, Stock Slightly Drops
JAKARTA – Indonesian palm oil industry in April 2026 showed a good performance as compared to its performance in March 2026. Production, consumption, and exports increased.
Production of CPO in April 2026 reached 4,479 thousand tons, an increase of 1.73% from 4,403 thousand tons in the previous month. Production of PKO in April dropped to 416 thousand tons from 424 thousand tons in March, causing total production of CPO+PKO in April 2026 at 4,903 thousand tons, which is an increase of 1.70% from 4,821 thousand tons in the previous month.
Year on year (YoY) as of April, production of CPO+PKO in 2026 rose to 20,461 thousand tons or an increase of 13.43% from production in 2025 at 18,039 thousand tons. Total local consumption rose 1.23% from 2,115 thousand tons in March 2026 to 2,141 thousand tons in April 2026.
The increase was seen in the consumption for oleochemical, which rose 6.79% to 173 thousand tons from 162 thousand tons in the previous month and consumption for biodiesel, which rose 7.67% to 1,137 thousand tons from 1,056 thousand tons in the previous month.
The decrease was seen on the consumption for foods, which declined by 7.36% to 831 thousand tons in April as compared to 897 thousand tons in the previous month. Year on year (YoY) as of April, the consumption in 2026 rose to 8,666 thousand tons or 6.06% higher than the consumption during the same period in 2025 at 8,171 thousand tons. Total exports of palm oil products in April 2026 rose to 2,777 thousand tons or an increase of 28.09% from the exports in March 2026 at 2,168 thousand tons.
The increase of export was seen in CPO, which rose 59.38% from 96 thousand tons to 153 thousand tons, in processed palm oil, which rose 35.52% from 1,506 thousand tons to 2,041 thousand tons, in oleochemical, which increased 3.85% from 468 thousand tons to 486 thousand tons, and in processed palm kernel oil (PKO), which increased 3.19% from 94 thousand tons to 97 thousand tons.
Year on year (YoY) as of April, the exports in 2026 rose to 11,324 thousand tons or an increase of 20.26% from exports in 2025 at 9,416 thousand tons.
Based on country of destination, export increase was seen in April 2026 as compared to the previous month. To China the exports increased by 118 thousand tons, to Africa by 97 thousand tons, to USA by 62 thousand tons, to India by 53 thousand tons, to Middle East by 49 thousand tons, to Pakistan by 48 thousand tons, to Bangladesh by 40 thousand tons, and to EU-27 by 7.0 thousand tons.
The export decrease was seen to Russia (-17 thousand tons) and to Malaysia (-9.0 thousand tons). Year on year (YoY) as of April, the increase of exports in 2026 from exports in 2025 was seen to China (+889 thousand tons), Africa (+327 thousand tons), India (+306 thousand tons), Middle East (+192 thousand tons), EU-27 (+87 thousand tons), Malaysia (+74 thousand tons), and Bangladesh (+60 thousand tons). Meanwhile, the decrease of exports was seen to Pakistan (-98 thousand tons), Russia (-54 thousand tons) and USA (-28 thousand tons).
The export value of palm oil products in April 2026 rose from US$ 2.61 billion in March to US$ 3.38 billion in April or an increase of 29.50%.
Year on year (YoY) as of April, the export value in 2026 rose to US$ 13.04 billion or 20.52% higher than that in 2025 at US$ 10.82 billion. The increase of export value year on year (YoY) was resulted from the increase of export volume and the increase of average price during January-April 2026 at US$ 1,408/ton Cif Rotterdam, which was higher than the average price during January-April 2025 at US$ 1,211/ton Cif Roterdam.
With initial stock by early April 2026 at 2,568 thousand tons, production at 4,903 thousand tons, consumption 2,141 thousand tons and exports at 2,777 thousand tons, then stock by end of April 2026 amounted to 2,558 thousand tons, which was lower than stock by end of March 2026 at 2,568 thousand tons.
