President Jokowi: One Day We’ll Stop CPO Export

JAKARTA – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said that Indonesia is not afraid being sued by other countries at the World Trade Organization (WTO) if it will stop the export of the unprocessed crude palm oil (CPO) in the future.

President Jokowi said that Indonesia will continue developing its downstream palm oil industries, which will later in the future absorb all of the CPO as their raw materials to produce various kinds of downstream products. “In spite of the unprocessed CPO, we will exports various kinds of processed products, such as cosmetics, margarine, biodiesel and other derivative products,” President Jokowi told participants of the regular training 2021 organized by the national resilience institute (Lemhannas) at the state palace, Jakarta, on Wednesday, 13 October 2021.

He said that the government is preparing all necessary steps needed to develop the palm oil industries—from upstream to downstream, which will then allow Indonesia to stop the export of CPO.

According to him, Indonesia has a clear and understandable reason to stop the CPO export in the future, so that it is not afraid to face lawsuits that might be filed by other countries at the WTO.

“We should have the courage to do so. We shouldn’t be afraid for being sued by other countries. We’ll prepare lawyers of international class to deal with such cases,” the President asserted. (*)
