RI-China Sign Deal To Raise Palm Oil Exports Next Year

JAKARTA – Indonesia will realize the plan on its additional exports of one million tons of crude palm oil (CPO) and derivative products to China next year.

To realize the plan, the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export for Foodstuffs, Native Produce & Animal By-Products (CFNA) signed on Friday, 11 November 2022, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with four palm oil organizations of Indonesia, namely the Indonesian Palm Oil Association (GAPKI), the Association of Indonesian Vegetable Oils (GIMNI), the Association of Indonesian Cooking Oils (AIMMI), and the Association of Indonesian Oleo-chemical Producers (APOLIN).

Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan (Zulhas) said that the MoU is a follow-up step to the two countries’ bilateral meeting at the end of July 2022 regarding the commitment of China to increase its palm oil imports by one million tons of CPO and derivative products from Indonesia.

“I hope the signing of the agreement will be realized to increase Indonesia’s CPO export to China,” Minister Zulhas said during the signing ceremony of the MoU on products of plantations and fisheries between Indonesia and China on Friday, 11 November 2022.

The minister hopes that the Chinese government will support the agreement and increase the mutually beneficial trade cooperation between Indonesia and China.

Previously, China expressed its commitment to increase its imports of CPO by one million tons from Indonesia during the meeting between President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang in Beijing on Tuesday, 26 July 2022.

Besides the commitment to raise the CPO import, China is also committed to solving the problem of CPO export logistics from Indonesia to the country. China will provide additional ships to transport the CPO exports from Indonesia.

In addition to that, China has expressed its commitment to prioritizing the imports of agricultural products from Indonesia. During their July meeting, President Joko Widodo and Li Keqiang also discussed about bilateral cooperation on development of Green Industrial Park in North Kalimantan province. (*)
