JAKARTA – ID Survey, a holding company of state-owned companies (BUMN) for survey services to facilitate decarbonization, has partnered with Metaverse Green Exchange (MVGX) of Singapore to develop the infrastructure of carbon trading in Indonesia.
Arisudono, President Director of PT Biro Klasifikasi Indonesia (BKI) or ID Survey, said that the partnership is a follow-up step to the direction of State-owned Enterprises (BUMN) Minister Erick Thohir on the implementation of carbon economic value (CEV), which is focused on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) rating and performance.
“ID Survey with its competency and Metaverse Green Exchange with its digital experience and blockchain are very suitable to further strengthen their partnership in developing an ecosystem of decarbonization and carbon trading. It shouldn’t be only in Indonesia but at regional level as well,” Arisudono said in a written statement on Monday, 29 May 2023.
Ari said that their partnership is based on their commitment to Paris Agreement as international agreement to tackle the global problem of climate change. He said that in certain cases business players found it difficult to realize their commitments to take part in the implementation of the CEV.
According to him, since Paris Agreement in 2015, carbon credit is seen more credible through the system of national and international registrations. Conversely, the voluntary scheme of Kyoto Protocol, which is international agreement to reduce the emission of (CO2) and greenhouse gas emissions in the atmosphere since 2005, has become less flexible to implement.
Ari said that the two commitments have finally caused a dilemma. It is because Paris Agreement is focused on Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), while voluntary carbon market that accommodates independence in the transactions of carbon credits to fulfill the need for incentives of just transition towards clean energy does not take into account the NDC.
Ari said that the two schemes will be applied in Indonesia in line with the issuances of several related laws.
According to him, as an integrated one-stop services of decarbonization and ESG, ID Survey will keep trying to help the business players through its competencies in carbon accounting, carbon management consulting, carbon monitoring, validation or verification, ESG consulting, ESG booster, energy audit, environmental audit, up to technical mentoring in implementing green business.
