ID FOOD : Palm Oil Largest Commodity in ‘Program Makmur’

JAKARTA – The government is pushing all agricultural stakeholders to increase production of agriculture and plantation sectors, which include palm oil, with a view to realizing national self-sufficiency in foods.

President Director of the state-owned holding company for foods ID FOOD, Frans Marganda Tambunan, who is also the chairman of the Project Management Office (PMO) of Program Makmur (Prosperity Program), said that  the prosperity program consists of a number of programs, which include cultivation assistance, technological use, harvest offtake, funding, and insurance.

“Program Makmur aims to increase the productivity of food commodities through the integration of business process from upstream to downstream,” Frans said on Tuesday (27/2023).

According to Frans, since its implementation in 2021 the prosperity program has realized planting areas of 692,000 hectares (Ha), harvests of 284,000 Ha and participation of 322,000 farmers as partners in the program. “Under the program we develop five food commodities, namely rice, sugarcane, corn, oil palm and coffee,” he said.

Frans said the achievement has exceeded the target of planting areas set at 557,000 Ha. “Looking forward, we’ll continue develop this program with the support of the ministry of state-owned enterprises (BUMN) and collaborations with BUMN companies involving in foods, banking, insurance, and logistics,” said Frans.

He said that the palm oil is the largest commodity cultivated under the prosperity program, as it has total planting areas of 224,000 Ha or 42% higher than the target set at 130,000 Ha.

The oil palm plantations, which have been developed by the state-owned PTPN and state-owned PT Pupuk Indonesia, have been realized in 15 provinces, namely Aceh, North Sumatera, West Sumatera, Riau, Jambi, Bengkulu, South Sumatera, Lampung, Bangka Belitung, Central Kalimantan, West Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, and West Sulawesi, and involve 55,000 farmers.

The second commodity under the program is rice, with total planting areas of 202,000 Ha or 41% higher than the target set at 117,000 Ha. Currently, the cultivation of rice has been realized in 18 provinces, namely Aceh, North  Sumatera, West Sumatera, Bengkulu, South Sumatera, Lampung, Banten, West Java, Central Java, Yogyakarta, East Java, West Kalimantan, Bali, NTB, NTT, South Sulawesi, West Sulawesi, and Gorontalo.

The rice cultivation is implemented by three companies, namely PT Sang Hyang Seri, Pupuk Indonesia, and Perum Perhutani. So far, the rice cultivation has involved 148,000 farmers with a total areas of harvests at 153,000 Ha,” he said.

Sugarcane is the third largest commodity in the prosperity program. According to Frans, ID FOOD, PTPN, and Pupuk Indonesia are assigned to increase the production of sugar under the Program Makmur.

“Program Makmur targets realization of planting areas of sugarcane at 241,000 Ha. So far, it has been realized at 182,000 Ha with a total 55,000 farmers involve in the program. The Program Makmur for sugarcane has been realized in 6.0 provinces, namely Lampung, West Java, Central Java, Yogyakarta, East Java, and South Sulawesi,” said Frans.

Frans said that for corn commodity Sang Hyang Seri and Pupuk Indonesia have realized planting areas of 69,000 Ha in 12 provinces, namely Aceh, North Sumatera, West Sumatera, Lampung, West Java, Central Java, East Java, NTB, NTT, South Sulawesi, West Sulawesi, and Gorontalo.

The planting areas of corn are 12% higher than the target set at 58,000 Ha. Its harvesting areas had been realized at 52,000 Ha, with a total 46,000 farmers involved.

For coffee commodity, its planting areas are realized at 13,000 Ha since 2022, or 23% higher than the target set at 10,000 Ha. The coffee cultivation has involved 15,000 farmers, under the management of PTPN and Pupuk Indonesia in North Sumatera, West  Sumatera, South Sumatera, Lampung, West Java, Central Java, and East Java.
