Entering 2024, RI Abounds With Optimism Despite Global Uncertainty

JAKARTA — President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) expressed his optimism in entering the new year 2024 with economy and politics being seen in good condition. He underlined the importance of consistency of hard working and cooperation to realize the optimistic expectation.

“Indonesia’s economic outlook 2024 is very optimistic. Our optimism is based on our economic performance and conducive political condition ahead of the Pemilu (general elections)

  1. What’s important is our consistency in hard working and synergy between the government and the private sector to reach our goals,” President Jokowi said when addressing the event of Indonesian Economic Outlook 2024 in Jakarta on Friday (22/12).

On the economic side, the president said that during the year 2023 Indonesian economy could still grow well at the range of 5%, while its inflation was far below the average of global inflation. Its other economic indicators are also at good levels.

“Employment absorption rose by 4.5 million workers during the period of August 2022 to August 2023, manufacture purchasing managers’ index (PMI) in November 2023 was still in expansive level at 51.7 (percent), trade balance still in surplus and has been in surplus for 43 consecutive months, and the consumers’ confidence index in November was at 123.6. It means a very strong confidence on our economic condition,” he said.

He is also optimistic that Indonesian economic growth in 2024 will be still at the range of 5.0 percent. But despite the fact, President Jokowi reminds the public to stay watchful with the global uncertainty that is still lingering until now.

“The Javanese people say ‘tetep eling lan waspada’. It means always careful and watchful. The global uncertainty is still there, the conflict in the Middle East that can trigger the increase of oil prices at the global market is still possible,” he said.

During the occasion, President urged the general public to stay consistent in attracting foreign and domestic investors. “The investments will be focused on increasing the added values to our national economy,” he said.

“Investments for expanding and deepening the down-streaming process in all economic sectors, especially in mineral, agriculture, fisheries and maritime, plantations and strengthening digital economy, green economy,” he said.

Accompanying the President during the ceremony were Economic Coordinating Minister Airlangga Hartarto, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Arifin Tasrif, and Minister/Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung. (*)
