Pertamina Seeks To Sell Bioavtur Abroad

JAKARTA – PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional (KPI), a refining and petrochemical subholding company of Pertamina Group, targets to sell bioavtur this year to foreign markets.

KPI President Director Taufik Aditiyawarman said that the bioavtur 2.4% had undergone a commercial test in October 2023 on Garuda’s airplane, Boeing 737-800NG and previously on the airplane of CN235. By completing the tests, Pertamina hopes this year there will be aviation companies that are interested in purchasing the bioavtur.

“Our target in 2024 there will be offtakers of our bioavtur production. Also our next step is to ensure that our bioavtur of 2.4% will be used commercially across Indonesia,” Taufik said as quoted by sawitku.id from the program of Energy Corner on Tuesday, 02 January 2024.

He said that one of Pertamina’s subholding company, PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, is sounding out the possibility of selling the bioavtur to foreign markets.

“Actually, Patra Niaga has started cooperation with a number of off-takers abroad. We have to prepare ourselves for such a possibility,” he said.

Currently, KPI has produced bioavtur or Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) with the mixture of palm oil derivative, namely Refined Bleach Deodorized Palm Kernel Oil (RBDPKO) at 2.4% in Green Refinery Cilacap, Central Java.

The Green Refinery Cilacap now has a processing capacity of bioavtur at 9,000 barrels per day (bpd). (*)
