JAKARTA – The oil-gas regulator BPH Migas has stated that the government will raise the blending rate of bioethanol by 20% (E20) this year (2024).

BPH Migas Committee Member Saleh Abdurrahman said that the bioethanol production is part of the government’s program to develop renewable energy sources, which are more friendly to the environment.
“Based on the energy and mineral resources minister regulation (Permen ESDM) no.12/2015, blending rate of bioethanol should be 20%,” Saleh said during the event of Energy Corner CNBC Indonesia on Tuesday.
According to Saleh, the E20 mixture will not be only applied to the non-PSO (public service obligation) types, such as Pertamax, but also to the PSO types, such as Pertalite.
“The Non PSO types, such as Pertamax, Pertamax Dex, and the PSO type, such as Pertalite, should also contain the E20 based on the regulation,” said Saleh.
But he admitted that supporting infrastructure, suppliers of raw material, and production are not yet optimized.
The ministry of energy and mineral resources (MEMR) said that four companies have operated their bioethanol plants with installed production capacity of only 60,000 kiloliters, while their realized production capacity only reached 40,000 Kiloliters. (*)
