BIG: One-Map Policy Will Be Open For Public

JAKARTA – The Geospatial Information Board (BIG) has announced that the public will be allowed to access the one map policy (OMP). Previously, the access to the geospatial data was only limited to a certain group of authorized officials, including president, vice president, and related ministers.

The economic coordinating ministry’s Deputy in Charge of Regional Development and Spatial Planning, Susiwijono said that in the near future the public can access the OMP through Geoportal 2.0. It will become the single reference in making programs and policies related to spatial planning.

“The OMP will be provided in the geoportal and will be declared to the public during the “One Map Policy Summit 2024” that will be held on 26-27 June 2024,” Susiwijono said in Jakarta on Tuesday (02/04/2024).

According to him, the OMP is the result of collaborations to realize one map, which is based on one geospatial reference, one standard, one database, and one geoportal.

He said that the addition of the word “public” in the new regulation has allowed the general public, from individuals to legal entities and companies to access the data of OMP, which is previously limited only to certain officials. “Although now it is still closed to the public, but after the launching of Geoportal 2.0 it will be surely opened. But it will not be 100% free access as there are some facts that cannot be shared to the public,” said Susiwijono.

According to him, the OMP is based on the presidential decree (Keppres) No.28/2023 on access authority for sharing geospatial data and information through the national geospatial information network in accelerating the implementation of the OMP.

BIG Thematic Mapping and Integration Center Head Lien Rosalina claimed that the OMP will be able to solve the rampant cases of land mafia in Indonesia. “This OMP can provide clarity and more details of land status. In the future, the analysis on land status will not be only conducted by the ATR (agrarian and spatial planning) ministry, but also by BIG,” she said in Jakarta on Tuesday.

According to her, the OMP implementation will also solve the problems of overlapping legal status of land areas. “With the OMP, the spatial analysis of maps can be made clear,” said Lien.

The application of the One Map Policy is based on the law (UU) No.4/2011 on geospatial information. The geospatial information is implemented based on legal certainty, integrity, openness, update, accurate, expediency and democracy. (*)
