JAKARTA – The industry ministry is designing a palm oil roadmap toward “Indonesia Emas” (Golden Indonesia) 2045, which will become a guideline for the formulation of policies to develop Indonesia’s strategic industry of palm oil comprehensively.

“The palm oil roadmap is based on industrial added value, sustainability and traceability with the support of digital platform. It will function as a guideline of policies to develop the palm oil industries in the future,” Putu Juli Ardika, Director General of Agroindustry at the industry ministry, said during a discussion on further strategy to accelerate palm oil downstreaming in Jakarta on Thursday (20/06/2024).
Putu said that in 2045 Indonesia’s palm oil industries from upstream to downstream will be sustainable. Based on the analysis of the industry ministry, palm oil is the most prepared commodity in supporting the national endeavor to realize the Net Zero Emission (NZE) in industrial sector in 2050.
Golden Indonesian Palm Oil 2045 has been directed to eliminate carbon emissions in the country’s palm oil industry.
“Palm oil industries have been pushed toward realizing sustainability and should have traceability as a requirement for acceptability of downstream palm oil products at the global market,” said Putu.
Putu said that there are about 254 million tons of fresh palm fruit bunches (FFB) that are processed into around 51 million tons of Crude Palm Oil (CPO) and Crude Palm Kernel Oil (CPKO), which will be used as raw material for various industries and for exports.
“The CPO is processed into various products with higher added value in the downstream industries to meet the local needs and then exported to foreign countries in South Asia, East Asia, the Middle East, and European Union.
As part of the downstream industry development, the government has also developed palm oil-based cooking oil plants with a production capacity of around 46 million tons per year.
Besides the cooking oil plants, Indonesia also has oleofood plants with production capacity of around 4.2 million tons per year, oleochemical plants with production capacity of around 11.8 million tons per year, and biodiesel plants with installed production capacity of around 20.7 million kiloliter per year.
The existences of downstream industries has created many new regional growth centers outside Java island, such as in Kuala Tanjung and Dumai in Sumatra, Pangkalan Bun and Kumai in Kalimantan, and Pasangkayu in West Sulawesi. (*)
