RI Gets Global Recognition For Achievement To Cut Deforestation

JAKARTA – The ministry of environment and forestry (KLHK) said that Indonesia has received a global recognition for its achievement to reduce carbon emissions and deforestation.

“Indonesia has implemented action plans during the administration of President Jokowi (Joko Widodo). We managed to reduce carbon emissions and deforestation. As of 2023 we’ve managed to cut our deforestation rate,” KLHK’s Director General of sustainable forest management, Dida Migfar Ridha said after the opening ceremony of the Twenty-Seventh meeting of ASEAN Senior Officials on Forestry (ASOF27) on Thursday (18/07/2024) in Vimala Hills, Bogor, West Java.

Dida said that Indonesia’s achievement in reducing deforestation has got an international recognition from the international organization, the World Resources Institute (WRI). “It’s not just our claim. We got recognition from the World Resources Institute for such achievement,” he said.

“Previously, we declared our own data of deforestation. Later the  international organization also revealed their own data, which was different from our data. But now we have the the same data of deforestation. Our data of deforestation is the same with their data of deforestation. They realized that Indonesia’s deforestation rate is very low,” said Dida.

Dida hopes that other ASEAN countries will also apply the forest monitoring to preserve forest and prevent deforestation in their respective country. (*)
