RI Projects Biodiesel Export To EU To Grow By 6.7% In 2026

JAKARTA – The Indonesian government targets that Indonesia’s biodiesel export to European Union (EU) will grow steadily at 6.7% in 2026, maintaining the positive trend seen during the last four years.

The trade ministry’s International Trade Negotiation Director General Djatmiko Bris Witjaksono has stated that Indonesia’s victory over the biodiesel trade dispute with EU at the World Trade Organization (WTO) has become a very important momentum for Indonesia to secure its export performance to European market.

“Averagely, the growth of our biodiesel export to EU stood at 6.7% during the last four years. Hopefully, we can continually maintain this trend,” Djatmiko said on Thursday (28 August 2025).

But despite the fact, the government also considers the domestic need, especially with the implementation of B40 and B45 mandatory program, under the national energy transition, which is estimated to have absorbed around 15.6 million kilolitres of biodiesel.

The increase of production is believed the key factor in optimizing the export. “The WTO ruling that favours Indonesia in the trade dispute will require EU to review its countervailing import duty against biodiesel from Indonesia,” he said.

WTO opined that the countervailing import duty is not consistent with the Agreement on Subsidies and Countervailing Measures (ASCM).

Under such condition, the government is optimistic that Indonesia’s biodiesel export to EU will be maintained, while opening an opportunity to expand global market penetration. (*)
