MEDAN – The Plantation Fund Management Board (BPDP) has stated that palm oil industry is not only limited on production of crude palm oil. It can become a source of new economic innovations for big companies and for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to produce a variety of other related products.
Through the support of researches and small and medium enterprises, the oil palm has generated other related industries which produce various kinds of products, including batik textile products, ecofriendly polybags, honey, various craft products, and many other kinds of products based on the palm oil and all kinds of wastes from oil palm plantations.
The BPDP’s Cooperation, Social and Small and Medium Enterprises Division Head Helmi Muhansyah said that development of palm oil industries in Indonesia have opened opportunities for new businesses in the upstream and downstream sectors.
“BPDP has always supported the small and medium businesses to allow them to pursue further development and innovations. Palm oil derivative products have big potential to meet the needs of general public while opening business opportunities,” Helmi Muhansyah said in Medan, North Sumatra province, on Tuesday (2/9/2025).
BPDP had also launched a catalog of 100 products of small and medium enterprises to expand market access and accelerate promotion. The steps are considered important to help the small businesses to expand their businesses from just selling raw materials to producing more valuable products.
The participation of BPDP in the event of “Pekan Inovasi dan Investasi Sumatera Utara 2025” (North Sumatra Innovation and Investment Week 2025) has become one of momentums to promote palm oil derivative products to the public. More than 400 visitors are listed visiting the booth of BPDP to see for themselves the innovations being offered. The innovations are expected to change public opinion on palm oil, from just export commodity of Indonesia to its main driver of national and local economies. (*)
