CONSUMPTION RISES, EXPORTS DROP
JAKARTA – Production of CPO (Crude Palm Oil) in August 2025 reached 5,062 thousand tons, decreased -1,00% compared to that of the previous month at 5,113 thousand tons. Production of PKO (Palm Kernel Oil) also decreased from 493 thousand tons in July 2025 to 481 thousand tons in August 2025.
Year on year (YoY) until August 2025, the total production of CPO + PKO reached 39,037 thousand tons, an increase of 13.08% compared to the same period in 2024 at 34,522 thousand tons. Total domestic consumption rose from 2,034 thousand tons in July to 2,100 thousand tons in August 2025.
The biggest increase was seen in:
- Consumption for biodiesel, rose 5.71% to 1,111 thousand tons from 1,051 thousand tons at the previous month.
- Consumption for foods, rose 1.00% to 806 thousand tons from 798 thousand tons.
Meanwhile, the consumption for oleochemical saw a decrease of
-1.08% to 183 thousand tons from 185 thousand tons in July 2025.
Total exports of palm oil products in August 2025 reached 3,473 thousand tons, a decrease of -1.81% compared to that in July at 3,537 thousand tons. The details of export increase and decrease are as follows:
- CPO: significantly decreased -21.09% to 494 thousand tons from 626 thousand tons.
- Oleochemical: decreased -0.46% to 436 thousand tons from 438 thousand tons.
- Processed palm oil: increased 1.56% to 2,343 thousand tons from 2,307 thousand tons.
- Processed PKO: increased 21.34% to 199 thousand tons from 164 thousand tons.
Exports based on destination country:
The biggest decrease of exports in August 2025 is as follows:
- India (-160 thousand tons)
- Bangladesh (-76 thousand tons)
- Pakistan (-48 thousand tons)
The increase of exports was seen to the following countries:
- Malaysia: +103 thousand tons
- China: +101 thousand tons
- Africa: +40 thousand tons
- European Union (EU-27): +32 thousand tons
- Russia: +6 thousand tons
- USA: +4 thousand tons
Export value of palm oil products in August rose from US$ 3.690 billion in July to US$ 3.819 billion in August, or an increase of 3.50%. Year on year (YoY) until August 2025, the export value of Indonesian palm oil reached US$ 24.785 billion, rose 42.88% compared to the same period in 2024 at US$ 17.347 billion.
The increase of export value was mainly driven by average price of CPO during January–August 2025 at US$ 1,204/ton CIF Rotterdam, higher than US$ 1,009/ton during the same period in 2024. With the initial stock in August at 2,568 thousand tons, total production of CPO + PKO at 5,542 thousand tons, domestic consumption at 2,100 thousand tons, and exports at 3,473 thousand tons, then final stock by the end of August 2025 dropped to 2,543 thousand tons.
