The year 2020 has been very special and very challenging. The Covid-19 pandemic has changed\u00a0 lifestyle and the way people work in the world. The pandemic has also ushered in a new habit of practicing hygienic and clean living and keeping physical distancing. The restriction of in-person social interactions has encouraged people to increase the use of digital technology to communicate in their business activities, in teaching and learning activities and other social activities.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Adjusting to the condition of New Normal, GAPKI is proud to organize the Indonesian Palm Oil Conference (IPOC) for the first time through online. IPOC is the world\u2019s largest conference of palm oil, which provides information on latest development of palm oil industry in Indonesia and the world, and analysis of future price trends.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The 16th Indonesian Palm Oil Conference and 2021 Price Outlook will be held virtually on 2 – 3 December 2020, with the theme, \u201cPalm Oil Industry in the New Normal Economy.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Covid-19 pandemic has impacted the global economy and trade. A number of countries have even plunged into economic recession that had slowed down development activities. Currently, all countries are seeking to design their strategies to revive their respective economies, including in Indonesia. We are also witnessing the price fluctuations of various commodities, including the crude oil that has dropped to the lowest level.<\/p>\n

The palm oil industry is among the industries that are not significantly affected by the pandemic, as the oil palm plantations are located in remote areas, and growers keep normal operations by strictly implementing health protocols. But despite of the fact, the fear is still there due to the weakening demand, as a result of the change of lifestyle and economic slowdown, which has affected the global economy. With demand declining while production rising, then prices will drop. An appropriate strategy is needed to keep the stability of prices and competitiveness amid the uncertain condition. That is why the above theme is specially chosen to allow more comprehensive discussions on the strategy of economic recovery during the New Normal.<\/p>\n

The two-day conference will also discuss about Indonesia\u2019s macro\u00a0 economic recovery through monetary policy, fiscal policy, and renewable energy development policy. The industries are certainly influenced by government policies, so that understanding of the new policies will help companies in designing their future business strategies. In addition to that, the conference will also address market oportunities for palm oil in a number of export destination countries, global supply and demand of vegetable oils, global market trends, and projection of palm oil prices next year.<\/p>\n

This year IPOC is scheduled to be officially opened by economic coordinating minister, who will also give a special keynote speech. <\/em>Maritime and Investment Coordinating Minister is also scheduled to present a special address regarding the investment climate in Indononesia after the Covid-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n

It has been a tradition for IPOC to feature world expert speakers to reveal the price trends, who include Dorab Mistry (Godrej International Ltd), James Fry (LMC International) and Thomas Mielke (Oil World).<\/p>\n

IPOC is an international forum of business players and stakeholders, owners, CEO and executives, and policy makers at national and international level, to discuss about strategic issues on the palm oil industry from the upstream to downstream sector. IPOC also functions as a medium for business players to expand their business networks through sponsorship program or virtual communication provided by the organizing committee.<\/p>\n

The public interest in the conference among Indonesians and those in foreign countries has been continually increasing every year. Last year, the conference was attended by more than 1,500 participants from 25 countries (outside of special invitees and \u00a0visitors). For this year conference, the first conducted virtually, we limit the participants at the maximum of 1,000 participants from more than 25 countries. Currently, the registered participants have reached almost 850 people, reflecting that the public interest is still high.<\/p>\n
