The rehabilitation program is the implementation of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) and cooperation between the maritime and investment coordinating ministry, the environment and forestry ministry, the maritime and fishery ministry, and a number of associations, including GAPKI, which has agreed to rehabilitate mangrove forests in a number of locations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSabuai village has seen an expanding and worsening abrasion. Tha\u2019s why GAPKI chose it as the location for planting mangrove trees to rehabilitate the mangrove forests there,\u201d said GAPKI Executive Director Mukti Sardjono. After conducting an observation, GAPKI then tried to plant mangrove trees deeper into the coastal land to ensure the growth and survival of the planted mangrove trees.<\/p>\n<p>According to Mukti, the replanting of 10 Ha location in Sabuai village is part of GAPKI\u2019s commitment to rehabilitate 50 Ha mangrove forests in Central Kalimantan, especially along the river basin of Kahayan. Kotawaringin Barat regency\u2019s Environment Service Head Fitriyana said that GAPKI\u2019s planting program is expected to help solve the environmental problems in the area.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis planting program is implemented by considering the natural condition of each location to maximize the planting success rate,\u201d she said. He said that previously a planting program had been conducted in coastal areas of Sabuai village. But the mangrove trees could not survive due to the sea tide. Fitriyana added that they highly appreciate the planting program conducted by GAPKI.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need to strengthen our synergy to ensure that this planting program will be well executed,\u201d she said. Fitriyana noted that the program will also facilitate them to take inventory of mangrove trees in the region. She said that the mangrove forests are potential as economic resources for production of various products. \u201cHopefully, they can become role model for others,\u201d she said. Sabuai Village Head Tohari said that the mangrove planting program is very beneficial.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPossibly, it\u2019s not now, but in the next five to ten years ahead we\u2019ll certainly see the benefits,\u201d she said. According to him, the mangrove trees can reduce the impacts of sea tides, sea waves, and strong winds. She hopes that the planting program will succeed with minimum 80% of planted mangrove trees growing well and surviving. \u201cWe\u2019ll bequeath those mangrove trees to the next generations,\u201d she asserted.
