JAKARTA — The faculty of engineering of the University of Indonesia (FT-UI) has collaborated with the researchers of the University of Tohoku of Japan to transfer the processing technology of palm fatty acid distilled <\/em>(PFAD) to the palm oil companies in Indonesia.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The FT-UI Dean Prof Dr Heri Hermansyah said that they have already had the technology management office<\/em> that will facilitate the process of transferring the technology from the patents offered by the Japanese partners.<\/p>\n

He said that they will also help pave the way for possible cooperation with the government, especially the ministry of energy and mineral resources (MEMR) and other industries.<\/p>\n

“We hope the technology will help the national palm oil companies to increase their products. Currently, Indonesian palm oil companies have produced around 160 kinds of products from the crude palm oil (CPO), which are still lower than those of Malaysia, which have already had more than 200 derivative products from CPO,” Heri Hermansyah said in a press release in Jakarta on Monday, 12 December 2022.<\/p>\n

Japanese Researcher Naomi Shibasaki-Kitakawa and team members–Yuichiro Kanematsu and Kousuke Hiromori, have registered their patents of technology in Indonesia and Malaysia.<\/p>\n

Shibasaki said that their patents of technology are concerned with the processing technology of palm oil, especially the production process of biodiesel, Vitamin E and Super Vitamin.<\/p>\n

“The patents with various advantages and innovations have been widely introduced to invite partners who are interested in developing the palm oil processing technology,” he said.<\/p>\n

Besides visiting FTUI, Shibasaki and team members have also had meetings with the MEMR\u2019s New, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation Directorate General and the Industry Ministry to introduce and get inputs regarding the technology and potential application in Indonesia.<\/p>\n

New, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation Director General Dadan Kusdiana said that a good collaboration between the government, the universities and industries can generate huge benefits for Indonesian palm oil industry.<\/p>\n

“The technology still needs an assessment of its economics to convince the investors in the future,\u201d said Dadan.<\/p>\n

The Japanese researchers have also made a visit to the palm oil company Apical, and discussed a possibility of cooperation in applying the technology and assessing its economics of application.<\/p>\n

The PFAD is a byproduct resulted from the processing of crude palm oil <\/em>(CPO) to refined, bleached, and deodorized palm oil <\/em>(RBDPO) in refinery plant. The amount of byproduct of PFAD resulted from the refining process is around 04 percent of the CPO being processed. (*)<\/p>\n
