The emission reduction reached 109.64% of the target set for last year at 116 million tons of CO2e.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-27349\" src=\"https:\/\/gapki.id\/en\/dir-site\/uploads\/2024\/01\/emisi_grk_sawitindonesia.com_.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"803\" height=\"522\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gapki.id\/en\/dir-site\/uploads\/2024\/01\/emisi_grk_sawitindonesia.com_.jpg 750w, https:\/\/gapki.id\/en\/dir-site\/uploads\/2024\/01\/emisi_grk_sawitindonesia.com_-300x195.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 803px) 100vw, 803px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Jisman P. Hutajulu, Acting Director General of New &amp; Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation at the ministry of energy and mineral resources (MEMR), said that Indonesia has been continually taking concrete steps in mitigating climate change, including by raising the reduction target of the GHG emission from previous 29% to 31.89% with own capacity and from 41% to 43.20% with international support.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe government targets to reduce GHG emissions in the energy sector by 31.89% with own capacity and 43.20% with international support in 2030,\u201d Jisman said during a press conference on the performance of renewable energy sub-sector in 2023 in Jakarta on Thursday (18\/1\/2024).<\/p>\n<p>Jisman said the realization of the emission reduction in 2023 was supported by several factors, which include the following ones:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Implementation of renewable energy (51.30 million tons of CO2e),<\/li>\n<li>Application of energy efficiency (31.76 million tons of CO2e),<\/li>\n<li>Use of natural gas as low carbon fossil fuel (15.55 million tons of CO2e),<\/li>\n<li>Application of green power plant technology (13.33 million tons of \u00a0CO2e), and<\/li>\n<li>Other activities (15.63 million tons of CO2e).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Besides,\u00a0 energy efficiency has also contributed to the reduction of GHG emissions in energy sector. In 2023, the achievement of primary energy intensity reached 132.6 barrels of oil equivalent (BOE) per billion rupiah or 102% of the target set at 135.2 BOE\/billion rupiah. The reduction indicator of the primary energy intensity shows that the energy sector has been more efficient in using energy from the side of energy providers.<\/p>\n<p>Based on the study conducted by the International Energy Agency (IEA), the energy intensity of Indonesia in 2021 was better than most of G20 member countries. The increase of Indonesia\u2019s energy intensity during the period of 10 years (2011-2020) reached 3%.<\/p>\n<p>According to Jisman, the achievement to reduce the primary energy intensity in the energy sector in 2023 has helped strengthen national energy resilience. \u201cThe government will keep trying to increase the achievement and realize the target of reducing the primary energy intensity,\u201d said Jisman.
