<\/p>\nJAKARTA \u2013 The Indonesian government has established an energy cooperation with Norway since 1995 with an effort of reducing carbon emissions. As part of the cooperation Indonesian ministry of energy and mineral resources (MEMR) held the Indonesia-Norway Bilateral Energy Consultation (INBEC) on Monday in Jakarta.<\/p>\n

\u201cIndonesia has continually implemented its energy transition to reduce carbon emissions by promoting the use of natural gas and renewable energy sources,\u201d the MEMR\u2019s Acting Director General of Oil and Gas, Dadan Kusdiana said when addressing the INBEC Scene Setting Session: Developments in the Two Countries Energy Sectors on Monday.<\/p>\n
Dadan stated that Indonesia has been continually realizing its commitment to contribute to the reduction of global emission. During the COP27, Indonesia declared its Enhanced Nationally Defeded Contribution (E-NDC) by increasing its target of emission reduction from 29% to 32%.<\/p>\n
According to him, the contribution of energy sector to the reduction of emission will increase from 314 million tons of CO2e to 358 million tons of CO2e in 2030. In 2023, its realization of carbon emission reduction reached 123.2 million tons of CO2e. It had surpassed this year target at 116 million tons of CO2e. The achievement was mostly realized through development of new and renewable energy sources and application of energy efficiency.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor long term, Indonesia has also targeted to realize Net Zero Emission (NZE) in 2060 or faster. In energy sector, the reduction of emissions will be realized through diversification, conservation, and decarbonization in a more massive endeavour,\u201d said Dadan.<\/p>\n
Regarding the use of more ecofriendly energy source, Dadan said the palm oil-based biofuel become the main alternative to replace the fossil fuels in Indonesia. Biofuel produces less emissions of greenhouse gas if compared to the fossil fuels. It has also reduced imports of fossil fuels, saved foreign exchange, and strengthened the energy resilience in Indonesia.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe implementation of biodiesel program has been successful during the last 17 years, making Indonesia as the pioneer and leader in the use of biodiesel. Since 01 February 2023, we\u2019ve implemented the biodiesel 35 percent (B35) nationally. The use of B35 in 2023 reached more than 12.2 million kilo-litre, providing economic benefits up to Rp15.82 trillion and projected to make a saving of more than Rp120 trillion,\u201d said Dadan.<\/p>\n
In oil-gas sector, the government is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emission through the application of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) and Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage (CCUS) technologies.<\/p>\n
\u201cIndonesia has a big potential of CO2 storage up to the total 577.6 Giga Ton, consisting of 4.8 Giga Ton Depleted Oil and Gas Reservoir and 572,8 Giga Ton Saline Aquifer. The big potential of CO2 storage can be found in a number of regions across Indonesia, namely in islands of Sumatera, Java, Kalimantan, and Papua,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Dadan also said that Indonesia is confident the technology from Norway is one of the most appropriate technologies to be implemented in Indonesia, especially for floating solar power plants, hydropower plants and for CCS and CCUS. \u201cWe\u2019re grateful to Norway for sharing their knowledge and experiences in the businesses of CCS\/CCUS.
