<\/a><\/p>\nThe B40 is a mixture of 60 percent fossil diesel fuel and 40 percent fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) derived from CPO. The B40 program is an upgrading of the current Biodiesel 35 percent (B35), which has been implemented by the government since last year.<\/p>\n
KESDM Secretary General Dadan Kusdiana said that Indonesia needs around 15.6 million tons of CPO as feedstock to implement the mandatory program of B40. \u201cInsya Allah (Thanks God), we have enough supply of CPO to support the B40 program,\u201d Dadan said at the Jakarta Convention Center on Tuesday (10\/12\/2024).<\/p>\n
Dadan said that currently the ministry\u2019s renewable energy directorate general is preparing the implementation. They will announce a result of the test of B40 use on non-automotive machines this week. \u201cDuring the next one or two days we\u2019ll announce the result. It\u2019s a follow-up step to the previous tests in automotive machines and its results have been ensured positive,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Economic Coordinating Minister Airlangga Hartarto said that the Indonesian government is committed to implementing the B40 program in January 2025. \u201cIt will increase the need of CPO for the biodiesel production. The implementation of B40 program is a concrete contribution of Indonesia to the world,\u201d Minister Airlangga said in Jakarta on Friday (29\/11\/2024).<\/p>\n
According to Airlangga, the implementation of B40 in Indonesia will reduce emission of carbon dioxide (CO2) at around 40 million tons. He also ensured that BPDPKS, which is assigned by the government to collect palm oil fund and finance the biodiesel mandatory production program, will be able to cover the spread between the price of biodiesel and the price of conventional diesel fuel.<\/p>\n
Based on estimation of the Association of Indonesian Biofuel Producers (Aprobi), the B40 program will increase the use of palm oil for biodiesel production to 13.9 million metric tons, as compared to 11 million metric tons needed for production of the current B35 program.<\/p>\n
KESDM has projected that the use of B40 will reduce Indonesia\u2019s import of fossil diesel fuel and save its foreign exchange at around US$9 billion or around Rp144 trillion.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn 2023, we managed to save foreign exchange from the use of B35 in automotive and non-automotive sectors at around Rp122 trillion,\u201d Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation Director General Eniya Listiani Dewi said in a written statement recently.<\/p>\n
Besides saving budget fund, the application of B40 can also reduce emission of carbon dioxide (C02) up to 42.5 million tons from the estimated use of 16 million kiloliter (kl) of B40 in 2025. It is higher than the use of B35, which amounted to 12.23 million kl in 2023 and projected to reach 13 million kl until the end of 2024.
