Besides, all parts of oil palm trees\u2014including wastes\u2014can be processed into a variety of renewable energy products.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Three Generations of Palm Bioenergy <\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong> First-Generation Palm Bioenergy<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>This first-generation palm bioenergy uses crude palm oil (CPO + CPKO) to replace fossil fuels in transportation sector:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Palm Biodiesel<\/li>\n<li>Palm Gasoline<\/li>\n<li>Palm Avtur (for airplanes)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li><strong> Second-Generation Palm Bioenergy<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Processing palm biomass, such as empty fruit bunches, midribs, trunks, and palm kernel shells into various products as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Palm Bioethanol (for vehicles)<\/li>\n<li>Palm Biocoal (for power plants and heater)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li><strong> Third-Generation Palm Bioenergy<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Processing the liquid waste of palm oil mills (POME) into various products of energy such as the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Algae Biodiesel<\/li>\n<li>Biogas and Bioelectricity<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The implementation of mandatory biodiesel program based on the use of palm oil as raw material has brought a significant impact in reducing emissions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>2016: 7.90 million tons of CO\u2082<\/li>\n<li>2020: 22.30 million tons of CO\u2082<\/li>\n<li>2024 (projected): 35.58 million tons of CO\u2082<\/li>\n<li>2025 (projected): 41.46 million tons of CO\u2082<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Indonesian palm oil industries have huge potential to produce bioenergy, which is renewable, low emissions and can replace the fossil fuels. Such capacity makes palm-based bioenergy as the important part of global energy solution in reducing GHG emission and in tackling global climate change.
