JAKARTA – PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional (KPI), a subsidiary of state-owned energy company Pertamina, has conducted the production trial of bioavtur or Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) by using used cooking oil (UCO) as raw material. The production trial was conducted after KPI changed the catalyst used in the unit of treated distillate hydro treating (TDHT) in its refinery plant in Cilacap, Central Java.<\/p>\n

“The catalyst is one of the innovations that is very important in our production of SAF with cooking oil,” KPI\u2019s Operation Director Didik Bahagia said in a press statement on Wednesday (30\/07\/2025).<\/p>\n

Didik said the catalyst is known as Merah-Putih, which is locally made by Indonesian people. It is needed to support the production process of SAF in the Cilacap refinery plant of Pertamina. \u201cBefore starting the SAF production with UCO, KPI had managed to produce and test SAF by using refined bleached deodorized palm kernel oil (PKO).<\/p>\n

According to Didik, after the SAF production, KPI will conduct a series of tests to ensure the product standard in the laboratory of KPI and Lemigas.\u00a0After ensuring that the SAF product meets the parameters set by Pertamina, it will be used in an inauguration flight in mid-August this year.<\/p>\n

“This is not just the success story of Pertamina alone, but the success of Indonesia as a nation in producing an energy product with the quality of world class,” he said.<\/p>\n

The production of SAF with the use of UCO as raw material is part of KPI\u2019s commitment to developing green energy and reducing carbon emissions in the sector of air transportation.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur production of SAF is aimed to support the national energy transition from fossil fuels to green and clean energy sources. It is also in line with our dual growth strategy, especially in pursuing business of low carbon based on green energy products,” said Didik. (*)<\/p>\n
