JAKARTA \u2013 Indonesia has officially launched the Carbon Unit Registration System (SRUK) to strengthen governance and accelerate carbon trading in the country.<\/p>\n
Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni in Jakarta on Thursday (09\/07\/2026) stated that the registration system is a crucial instrument for realizing the potential of an inclusive green economy in Indonesia.<\/p>\n
As the first step in implementing carbon trading under the new system, the minister reported that the government has issued trading permits for four Forest Utilization Business Permits (PBPH) since 6 July 2026.<\/p>\n
The strategic permits have been allocated proportionally, covering three concession-scale PBPH corporations and one community-level social forestry management group.<\/p>\n
The minister emphasized that the carbon trading scheme in Indonesia is designed not only to benefit elite groups or large corporations, but also to reach communities at the grassroots level.<\/p>\n
The government projects that the economic benefits from the carbon sector will be enjoyed by those managing 8.3 million hectares of social forestry and 1.4 million hectares of customary forests across the country.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Coordinating Minister for Food Zulkifli Hasan added that the SRUK is mandated by Presidential Regulation No. 110\/2025, which regulates the Implementation of Carbon Economic Value Instruments and National Greenhouse Gas Emission Control.<\/p>\n
Previously, regulations regarding carbon trading procedures through offsetting greenhouse gas emissions from the forestry sector were also finalized through the Minister of Forestry Regulation No. 6\/2026.<\/p>\n
He expressed optimism that Indonesia could become the epicentre of global carbon trading, as an increasingly robust regulatory framework paves the way for carbon trading.<\/p>\n
Simplified permitting in conservation areas is also expected to create opportunities for accountable and integrated carbon trading.<\/p>\n
The implementation of the national carbon economic value (NEK) instrument is expected to encourage green investment of up to US$5.8 billion.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, the implementation of the NEK instrument is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 570 million tons of CO2 equivalent. (*)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
