Exports and Consumption Drop, Stock Rises<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

<\/p>\n

JAKARTA \u2013 Production of CPO and PKO in May 2026 dropped compared to that in April, but consumption and exports of CPO and PKO decreased at higher level, causing the stock to rise. Year on year during January-May 2026, production, consumption, and exports of Indonesian palm oil industry saw a positive growth if compared to that of the same period in 2025.<\/p>\n

Production of CPO in May 2026 reached 4,165 thousand tons, a decrease of 7,01% compared to that in April 2026 at 4,479 thousand tons. Production of PKO also dropped to 387 thousand tons from 424 thousand tons in April. As a result, total production of CPO and PKO in May 2026 reached 4,552 thousand tons, a decrease of 7.16% compared to that in April at 4,903 thousand tons.<\/p>\n

Cumulatively during January\u2013May 2026, total production reached 25,013 thousand tons, which was higher by 10.68% compared to that of the same period in 2025 at 22,600 thousand tons. Total domestic consumption in May 2026 reached 2,078 thousand tons, a decline of 2.98% compared to that in April at 2,141 thousand tons.<\/p>\n

A decline in consumption was seen in the biodiesel sector, falling to 1,035 thousand tons from 1,137 thousand tons in April. Food consumption rose slightly to 856 thousand tons from 831 thousand tons in April, while oleochemical consumption also increased to 187 thousand tons from 173 thousand tons in April. Cumulatively, from January to May 2026, total domestic consumption reached 10,743 thousand tons, a 5.33% increase compared to the 10,200 thousand tons recorded during the same period in 2025.<\/p>\n

Total exports of palm oil products in May 2026 amounted to only 1,996 thousand tons, a 28.14% decrease from the 2,777 thousand tons recorded in April. Declines occurred in exports of processed palm oil (falling to 1,423 thousand tons from 2,041 thousand tons, or -30.26%), CPO (to 31 thousand tons from 153 thousand tons, or -79.7%), and processed palm kernel oil (to 55 thousand tons from 97 thousand tons, or -43.4%). Nevertheless, cumulative exports from January to May 2026 reached 13,320 thousand tons, 10.26% higher than the 12,080 thousand tons recorded during the same period in 2025.<\/p>\n

The export value of palm oil products in May 2026 stood at US$2.49 billion, down 26.3% from US$3.38 billion in April. The average CPO price (CIF Rotterdam) in May was US$1,453 per ton, lower than the April average of US$1,566 per ton (-7.2%). Cumulatively, from January to May 2026, the export value reached US$15.526 billion, a 13.82% increase over the US$13.641 billion recorded in 2025. The average CIF Rotterdam price for CPO during the January\u2013May 2026 period stood at US$1,417 per ton, higher than the average of US$1,186 per ton recorded during the same period in 2025.<\/p>\n

By destination, the decline in exports in May compared to April included shipments to China (down 164,000 tons or 30%), India (down 124,000 tons or 60%), Africa (down 140,000 tons or 36%), the EU (down 26,000 tons or 5%), the USA (down 78,000 tons or 37%), and Malaysia (down 49,000 tons or 36%). An increase in exports was seen for Russia, rising by 86,000 tons (+216%). However, on a cumulative basis for the January\u2013May 2026 period, exports to China were 46% higher than in the previous year, while exports to India, Africa, and the EU were 3%, 14%, and 3% higher, respectively.<\/p>\n

Conversely, exports to the USA were 8% lower. With an opening stock of 2,068,000 tons, total production of 25,013,000 tons, domestic consumption of 10,743,000 tons, total exports of 13,320,000 tons, and imports of 24,000 tons during the January\u2013May 2026 period, the closing stock at the end of May 2026 stood at 3,042,000 tons.<\/p>\n
