Production, Consumption and Exports Rise, Stock Drops

JAKARTA – Production of CPO and PKO increased in June 2026 compared to that in May 2026. However, the rise in consumption and exports was greater, resulting in a decline in stocks.

On a year-to-date basis (January–June 2026), production, consumption, and exports within Indonesia’s palm oil industry showed positive growth compared to the same period in 2025. CPO production in June 2026 reached 4,823 thousand tons, an increase of 8.59% from the 4,165 thousand tons recorded in May 2026.

PKO production also rose to 449 thousand tons, up from 387 thousand tons in May. Consequently, total CPO and PKO production in June 2026 reached 5,277 thousand tons, an 8.59% increase compared to 4,552 thousand tons in May. Cumulatively, from January to June 2026, total production reached 30,284 thousand tons, which was 15.82% higher than the 27,889 thousand tons recorded during the same period in 2025.

Total domestic consumption in June 2026 reached 2,201 thousand tons, a 5.92% increase compared to May’s 2,078 thousand tons. The rise in consumption was driven by the biodiesel sector, which reached 1,131 thousand tons, up from 1,035 thousand tons in May.

Food consumption rose to 878,000 tons from 856,000 tons in May, while oleochemical consumption also increased to 192,000 tons from 187,000 tons in May. Cumulatively, from January to June 2026, total domestic consumption reached 12,994,000 tons, a 5.48% increase compared to the 12,272,000 tons recorded during the same period in 2025.

Total exports of palm products in June 2026 reached 3,275,000 tons, up 64.08% from the 1,996,000 tons recorded in May. Increases were seen in exports of processed palm oil (rising to 2,357,000 tons from 1,423,000 tons, or +66%), CPO (rising to 335,000 tons from 31,000 tons, or +980%), and processed palm kernel oil (rising to 116,000 tons from 55,000 tons, or +110%).

Nevertheless, cumulative exports for January–June 2026 totaled 16,595,000 tons, 5.79% higher than the 15,686,000 tons recorded during the same period in 2025.

The export value of palm products in June 2026 reached US$3.92 billion, a 57.45% increase from the US$2.49 billion recorded in May. This rise in export value was driven by a significant increase in volume, even though the average CPO export price in June—US$1,174 per ton—was lower than the May average of US$1,227 (-4.32%). This price decline mirrored the drop in MDEX prices from US$1,134/ton in May to US$1,107/ton in June. Cumulatively, from January to June 2026, the export value reached US$19.45 billion, 12.57% higher than the US$17.277 billion recorded in 2025.

The average price of CPO export from January to June 2026 was recorded at US$1,132 per ton, higher than the average of US$1,088 per ton during the same period in 2025. By destination, the increase in exports in June 2026 compared to May 2026 included shipments to India (328 thousand tons, +396%), China (256 thousand tons, +67%), Pakistan (132 thousand tons, +88%), Malaysia (129 thousand tons, +149%), Africa (114 thousand tons, +45%), Bangladesh (98 thousand tons, +133%), and the USA (85 thousand tons, +64%). Declines in exports were recorded for Russia (25 thousand tons, -20%) and the EU-27 (4.0 thousand tons, -2%).

However, when calculated cumulatively for the January–June period, exports to China were 31% higher than in 2025, Malaysia 13% higher, Russia 7% higher, Africa 4% higher, and Bangladesh 4% higher; conversely, exports to the USA were 8% lower than in 2025, India 7% lower, Pakistan 7% lower, and the EU-27 1% lower.

With the initial stock of 2,068 thousand tons, total production of 30,284 thousand tons, domestic consumption of 12,994 thousand tons, total exports of 16,595 thousand tons, and imports of 32 thousand tons during January–June 2026, the final stock at the end of June 2026 stood at 2,844 thousand tons.
