Table of Contents
2027 Outlook in the Spotlight
Palm oil industry players will get a picture of the direction of 2027 at IPOC 2026, themed “Palm Oil in a Fragmented World: Securing Food, Energy, and Economic Resilience”.[1] The highlight is Session 4 (Economic Outlook and Market Trends) on the second day, featuring five presentations on market and price trends.[1] Thomas Mielke will present Global Supply, Demand and Price Outlook of Palm Oil and other Vegetable Oils. Dorab Mistry closes the series with the session “Perfect Storm on Palm Oil Industry and Outlook of Vegetable Oil Prices”.[1] Forecast figures will be delivered directly by the speakers in that session. Palm oil supplies around 40% of the world’s vegetable oil needs from less than 6% of total oil crop land.[2] As the largest producer and exporter, Indonesia strongly influences global market dynamics.[2] However, the industry environment is now changing. The supply-demand balance is increasingly sensitive to policy, importer sustainability regulations are tightening, geopolitical fragmentation is changing trade flows, and the energy transition is opening new demand alongside new competition.[2] Amid these conditions, IPOC presents market analysis, price forecasts, regulatory updates, and perspectives from major importing countries.[2]
Five Presentations in the Economic Outlook and Market Session
Session 4 is moderated by Sandeep Bhan of SD Guthrie International Trading Pte Ltd, with the following lineup.[1]
- Ryan Chen (Cargill Investments China) Palm oil trends and prospects in China and their implications for prices.
- Julian Conway McGill (Glenauk Economics) Managing the food-energy nexus in Indonesia’s palm oil industry.
- Thomas Mielke (OIL WORLD) Supply, demand, and price outlook for palm oil and other vegetable oils.
- Joko Supriyono (GAPKI) Policy dynamics, opportunities, and the path to resilience for Indonesia’s palm oil industry.
- Dorab Mistry (Godrej International) Vegetable oil price outlook.
Reading 2027 from Day One
Before the outlook session, the first day (Thursday, 12 November) features presentations complementing the market picture in Session 1 (Economic Resilience).[1]
- Teuku Muhammad Riefky Hasan (LPEM FEB UI) discusses the 2027 Indonesian economic outlook.
- Quick CK (S&P Global) discusses the 2026 Asian palm oil market outlook, policy, and geopolitics.
- Regina Koh (Fastmarkets) discusses Indonesian palm oil policy and its impact on the global market.
Session 2 (Food Security and Energy Transition) highlights the role of BPDP, biofuel and biodiesel policy, and the question of whether sustainability is still worth pursuing.[1]
Policy and Trade Shaping the Market
At the opening of the first day, Deputy Foreign Minister Arif Havas Oegroseno is scheduled to discuss the role of palm oil in strengthening Indonesia’s economic resilience. Coordinating Economic Minister Airlangga Hartarto and Minister of National Development Planning / Head of Bappenas Rachmat Pambudy are scheduled to deliver keynote addresses on economic resilience and food and energy strategy.[1] On the second day, Luke Thomas Mahony (PT Danantara Sumber Daya Indonesia) discusses challenges and opportunities under the new export regulation.
